Spirit of Apalta
A WINE THAT TELLS THE STORY OF ITS LAND, ITS HISTORY AND THE PASSAGE OF TIME.
The spirit of Neyen was born in 1889, when Cabernet Sauvignon vines brought directly from France compenetrated the soils of Apalta. Soon afterwards, when the Carménère vineyards had been planted and as the roots connected with the property, the spirit grew, filling the air with an inexplicable energy.
Over time, the vineyards established direct communication with the land; the grapes harvested became ever more representative of the terroir of Apalta and the energy of the soil grew more and more intense.
The local people could feel this special force but did not know how to explain it and so they called it Neyen, the Spirit of Apalta.
Neyen speaks of the place and the people. It knows the character of the land, allowing the origin to come through. Over a hundred years of experience have been passed from one generation to another, converting our wines into a faithful reflection of the spirit of Apalta.
Neyen is more than just a blend; it’s a powerful and vibrant interpretation of the place, the oldest in the D.O. Apalta.
Each year, the composition of the wine varies; Neyen seeks balance, an elegant synergy between the characteristics of each variety. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides the backbone to the wine, giving it structure, while the Carménère -the lost variety of Bordeaux- delivers its smooth mouthfeel and silky finish.
Neyen, ancestral spirit of the Apalta Valley, born in the Andes Mountain Range, fruit of the sun and centennial vines. Prodigious blend of Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Among the ancient blocks of vines on the Neyen de Apalta estate, Block 8 rested peacefully. Since the 19th century it had been planted with Malbec vines whose grapes were for many years harvested alongside those of the Cabernet Sauvignon. It was in 2012 that the viticultural and winemaking team embarked on the adventure of vinifying them separately, remaining true to the essence of making genuine, minimal intervention wines. The result is a wine that offers the purest expression of the place, of the centennial vines that are so deeply rooted in an exceptional terroir.
A Malbec of distinct character with black fruit aromas and abundant fresh fruit like plums and cherries intermingled with subtle notes of spices and violets. A wine of elegant complexity, ripe, smooth and well-rounded tannins and unique, captivating character.

Complex aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant blend with hints of vanilla and subtle pepper, cedar, and leather. On the palate, it is a fresh, elegant, and enveloping wine with soft tannins and a persistent finish. Deeply rooted in its origin, Neyen is a blend that authentically reflects the century-old vines and unique soils of Apalta. The grapes are hand-harvested in the early morning. The clusters are double-selected and destemmed, and the grapes are gravity-fed into 5000 L tanks, where they ferment with native yeasts for 24 to 28 days. Next, the wine is allowed to macerate on its skins for eight to ten days and is then racked into another tank for 36 hours. It is once again racked into 225-liter French oak barrels, where it ages for fourteen months. After blending, the wine is finished in a 3000-liter foudre for six months to achieve perfect integration, resulting in multiple layers of aromas and flavors.
